We got a good picture of where things stand in the state both in terms of challenges and opportunities, Batten said in her closing remarks. Were not in a Pollyanna kind of picture here. There really are serious challenges around the impacts of climate change that were already experiencing. [There are] some national politics which are quite challenging; the need, as Governor Brown said, to compress all of this complexity into sound bites that can then be used to galvanize action around this. ... And also weve learned our lands in California are in fact a source of emissions and not just a sink, as many of us may have assumed. But its really good also good to recognize how much progress weve been able to make.
